Sanlorenzo SHE: The Small Heritage Yacht That Understands Restraint

The most interesting yacht of the week may not be the largest one.

That is easy to forget in a market where size still dominates conversation. Bigger decks, bigger beach clubs, bigger owner suites, bigger tenders, bigger claims about lifestyle. Much of it is real. Some of it is useful. A lot of it is noise.

Sanlorenzo SHE takes another route.

Launched in Ameglia ahead of her world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2026, SHE is the first unit of Sanlorenzo's new Heritage model. The yacht is 25.5 metres long and reinterprets the lines of 1960s Italian yachting through a contemporary design language, with exteriors by Zuccon International Project and interiors by Lissoni and Partners.

That makes the project small by superyacht standards.

It also makes it more interesting.

Heritage without costume

Heritage is a dangerous word in yachting.

Used badly, it becomes nostalgia. A few rounded lines, some varnished surfaces, a story about the golden age of boating, and suddenly a new yacht is pretending to be older than it is.

Sanlorenzo is usually too intelligent for that trap.

The official description of SHE frames the yacht as a modern project inspired by Italian yachting tradition, built around craftsmanship, technical knowledge and design sensitivity. The launch note says the model introduces a new concept within Sanlorenzo's range and reflects strong market response, with the first five units sold before the official debut.

That early demand matters.

It suggests that some owners are tired of escalation.

They want character without pastiche.

Why 25.5 metres is serious

A 25.5-metre yacht can be dismissed by people who confuse seriousness with length.

That is a mistake.

This size category is extremely relevant for Mediterranean use. It can work for owners who want a yacht they actually use. It can enter the day without excessive ceremony. It can suit families, couples, short cruises and elegant coastal movement. It can be easier to place, easier to handle and less socially aggressive than a much larger yacht.

In the right hands, a yacht like SHE can feel more tasteful than a 45-metre yacht used badly.

The Mediterranean does not always reward scale.

Hybrid matters, but not as marketing

SHE integrates Volvo Penta IPS Hybrid propulsion, according to Sanlorenzo's launch information.

That detail should not be reduced to a sustainability slogan.

Hybrid systems matter when they improve how the yacht lives: quieter manoeuvring, lower vibration, more intelligent energy use, better comfort in sensitive waters and a general feeling that the boat is not working harder than necessary.

The guest may not ask about the system.

The guest feels the atmosphere it helps create.

Good technology disappears into calm.

Lissoni and the danger of over-design

Piero Lissoni's involvement is important because interiors on smaller yachts can easily become crowded.

There is less room to hide bad decisions. A large yacht can survive decorative excess because volume absorbs it. A 25.5-metre yacht needs discipline. Every line, material, storage decision, table, doorway and cushion has to understand scale.

SHE's promise is not that it will impress through abundance.

It should impress through editing.

That is much harder.

Who this yacht is for

SHE is not for the owner who wants to dominate a bay.

It is for someone who wants to arrive without making the arrival the whole point. Someone who values Italian design but does not need every surface to announce itself. Someone who likes the idea of a yacht that feels connected to older Mediterranean boating culture while remaining technically current.

It is also a strong signal for charter thinking.

Not every client needs the largest yacht available. Some clients need a yacht that understands the coast, the day and the group. A yacht that can move beautifully between Portofino, Argentario, Capri, Sardinia, the Cote d'Azur or the Balearics without feeling like too much object for the experience.

The Cannes test

The world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival will matter because SHE has to be judged in the right context.

Not as a superyacht competing for maximum volume. Not as a retro toy. Not as a tender enlarged into a lifestyle object.

It should be judged as a new kind of owner yacht: measured, elegant, technically current and socially restrained.

That is a difficult brief.

It is also exactly where Sanlorenzo tends to be strong.

The future of Mediterranean yachting will not be only larger, louder and more spectacular. There will also be a counter-movement toward yachts that feel more personal, more proportioned, more durable and less desperate to impress.

SHE belongs to that conversation.

A yacht does not need to be enormous to have authority.

Sometimes authority is the ability to stop at exactly the right size.
