Tankoa Spirit: The 52-Metre Hybrid Yacht That Makes Wellness the Beach Club

The word wellness is becoming dangerous in yachting.

It is too easy to use and too hard to prove. A small gym becomes wellness. A massage room becomes wellness. A sauna hidden beside the toys becomes wellness. The word can turn into marketing before the yacht ever leaves the shed.

Tankoa's new M/Y Spirit is interesting because the wellness idea appears to be built into the yacht's architecture rather than added as a label.

Tankoa launched the 52-metre M/Y Spirit, part of the T52 Vitruvius series, at its Genoa shipyard on July 11, 2026. The yacht is a full-custom project with naval architecture and exterior design by Vitruvius Yacht Design, led by Philippe Briand and Veerle Battiau, and interiors by FM Architettura. It accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins, with crew accommodation for nine in five cabins.

The launch is more than a yard milestone.

It points toward where serious owner yachts are going.

The beach club is no longer an afterthought

For years, the beach club was a bonus.

It sat at the stern, sometimes beautiful, sometimes compromised, sometimes used more for storing toys than for living. The modern guest has changed that. The aft deck is now where the yacht becomes emotional: swim, training, spa, terrace, pool, sea, children, morning, recovery, everything.

Spirit's defining feature is a wellness-focused beach club built around a large gym and spa area that can also be used while underway. The space opens directly onto the aft terrace, with a swimming pool and fold-down side platforms extending the relationship to the water.

That is not decoration.

That is a reordering of the yacht.

The body of the guest is now part of the brief.

Privacy is the new volume

Owners do not only want more space.

They want better separation.

Spirit's concept is described around wellbeing, privacy and direct contact with the sea. Large glazing, full-height windows and a two-section opening stern door are all used to maximise light and maintain visual continuity between inside and outside.

A larger saloon is not automatically better. A bigger cabin is not automatically more private. Privacy comes from movement, sightlines, crew circulation, acoustic control, the ability to host without being trapped, and the possibility for the owner to withdraw without making the withdrawal visible.

Spirit uses a full hybrid propulsion system supplied by E-Motion, integrating conventional engines, electric motors and batteries. Tankoa also worked with van Cappellen Consultancy on soundproofing and vibration reduction.

This matters because comfort is not only visual.

A yacht can look serene and feel busy. Mechanical noise, vibration, generator hum and poor acoustic planning can make even an expensive yacht feel less restful than the brochure promised.

Hybrid systems are often discussed through sustainability language. That is important, but owners feel the benefit first as atmosphere: quieter periods, smoother transitions, less background disturbance, a yacht that does not seem to be working against its own promise.

Quiet is becoming a real luxury.

Not a metaphor.

The Vitruvius difference

Vitruvius Yacht Design carries a particular idea of efficiency and proportion.

This is useful on a 52-metre yacht, because full custom can easily become indulgent. Owners have dreams; shipyards have capabilities; designers have signatures. Without discipline, the project grows heavy.

Spirit's reported top speed is 17 knots, with a cruising speed of 15 knots, and Tankoa says the hull and weight distribution were refined to improve efficiency and performance.

That tells us the yacht is not trying to be a fast spectacle.

Not every charter guest will know Tankoa Spirit by name.
